Dare & Kajsa puppies arrived in the very early hours of 03/11/09

8. week

Another busy week! We have started spending more time with each puppy on it's own. This will help us to see what each puppy is like away from it's littermates and help in finding the perfect family for each pup.

The engery levels are increasing and at 6am they can become quite noisy chasing each other through the play pen.

This week our house is filled with excited families that can't wait to collect their puppies. We are very happy for them but we also feel a little sad to see all puppies go. Thanks to Donna & Kylie and Helen & Jess that came all the way from NSW to visit Kajsa and her puppies. :-)

7. week

We are very pleased that all puppies have passed their vet health check with flying colors. So every puppy had their first needle and mirco chipping without any problems.

Today we also did a little puppy test. Unfortunately it was very hot but here are some photos:

Thanks Cheryl for coming all the way from Bakers Hill and running around with all 11 puppies on a very warm day.

We had lots of flying ears but this person was just too fast to catch :-)

Some even practised their tracking skills...

This week the puppies got a lot of visitors and everyone enjoyed it, visitors, puppies and us:-)

6. Week

The puppies are becoming increasingly busy. The tunnel and the balls are still the biggest hit and in constant use. They also have heaps of fun scooting around in the water bowl so we had to change to plastic bowls to keep the noise down.

Two tired puppies after they had a good time playing.

Not only the puppies are growing but also their nails. They are all used to their weekly nail trim so all puppies are relaxed :-)

5. Week

We don't know where all the time went but with all the laundry, cleaning, feeding and lots of cuddles time it just seems that there aren't enough hours in a day.

By now all the puppies are carrying soft toys around and have turned into real little retrievers. They all come for their meals when I whistle. It's really funny because as soon as they hear me whistle they are in a real rush to come flying:-) They are very people orientated and they are getting more and more cheeky pulling on whatever they can get hold off. The puppies all seem to be very playful and their personalities are really starting to come through. One little fellow can't get enough of zooming through the tunnel so he is a real little cracker.

The thing that surprises us the most is that it seem that they have picked the same spot where they all toilet so the rest of the play pen seems to stay clean.

Kajsa is also recovering and tomorrow the stitches will come out :-))). It will still take a few more weeks to completely heal but she is happy again and so are we.:-)

Here are some photos from this week, the puppies are 4.5 weeks old:

Nothing is too big for them to carry around:

4. Week

Our poor washing machine is doing as much overtime as we do in looking after the puppies. It's unbelievable how much 11 puppies pee and poo.

A big development this week is that all puppies have their teeth coming through. They can also shake which looks rather funny. They are also getting more active, zooming around, investigating toys and playing with each other.

"Aunty" Jessie takes her duties very seriously :-)

3. Week

This week the puppies have changed a lot and it becomes very obvious that they can see and hear us. We didn't want to use the camera for a few days while they opened their eyes but now we are back taking photos.

While Kajsa is still cleaning the puppies they seem to be able to pee and poo on their own. They can also scratch themselves with their back leg which looks very funny.

It also seems that they have found out that there is 11 of them and they are starting to play with each other.

2. Week

Some of the puppies are getting interested in what's behind the barrier

It's unbelievable how quickly puppies develop. Their eyes and ears are still closed but somehow it seems that they get more and more interest in what's outside the whelping box. It looks like we might need to up the front barrier a little before the first ones zoom through the house:-)

We also noticed that their ears are now hanging down, so they starting to look like real little flatcoats.

We can yawn

It's a hard life :-) One of the puppies yawning. Not sure who has been sleeping on the sofa for the last 2 weeks!

A typical flatcoat sleeping position:-)

While the main activity is still sleeping and eating they also seem to get a lot faster zooming around the whelping box. As soon as Kajsa puts a foot in there they all swarm underneath her. How she manages to lay down without squashing one is unbelievable.

How hard can it be to count 11 puppies

We are still busy counting to 11 but way the puppies zoom around or pile up on one of another doesn't make the tastk easier.

1. Week

Kajsa's puppies were born in the early hours of Tuesday. We now have 11 new family members, 6 boys and 5 girls, all black.

We are all very exhausted but happy that everything went well. I can't thank my friend Tania enough for all her help and support. Staying with us all night to the morning until the last pup was born at 5.31am. When we got to 6 boys and 1 girl we had a laugh and said that we would change to pink towels for the girls and it worked, as the final 4 were all girls.

Kajsa and her 11 babies

Kajsa is a wonderful mum and takes on her new responsibility if she's been doing this all her life. She is very careful and calm with her babies and they probably have the most squeaky clean bottoms of all :-)

With 11 puppies the milk bar seems in constant demand so we feed Kajsa small meals around the clock to ensure that she has enough milk.

The milk bar is in constant demand

Things seem to settle into a routine again and Juergen and I are able to catch up on some sleep. I was pretty buggered after the first 2 nights so Juergen took an extra night shift even that he had to work the next day. Thanks:-) Kajsa keeps a close eye on where her puppies are and we are sure she can count. We hardly have to step in to "rescue" one from behind her back but the shelfs or "pig rails" do an excellent job.

Squeaky clean bottoms

I don't think we ever counted that many times to 11 :-)

Mum and babies are doing fine

We added a little cushion for Kajsa to rest her head on. Looks like the puppies think it's a great idea.

Sweet dreams little ones :-)

Sweet dreams

That's the first week

Some puppies seem to love to snuggle up on Kajsa's back or head and they just fall asleep together.

All puppies arrived well and safe in VIC, NSW and SA :-)

The Hopkins Family and *Blue*

The Jacobson Family and *Geordie*

The Miles Family with Montgomery Zaccaria Miles or short *Monty* :-))

Well, we hope all puppies give their families many hours of enjoyment :-))

We wish you all the best....

We also tried all puppies on a pigeon wing:

Bouncing out:

And bouncing back:

And even a nice delivery:

Looks like they all enjoyed it very much.

It's hard to believe that in another week all the puppies will go to their new homes.

We are getting more cheeky!

We have also practised a bit of show standing at 5.5 weeks old..

And some more photos:

Today we had a bit a scare with a bushfire not far from where we live. We had the helitecs going over our house but non of the puppies were worried. :-))

Today we decided it was time for a bath and they all didn't seem to mind. With some it looked more like they weren't sure why we wouldn't let them have a play in the tubl:-)

And afterwards they were ready for some more adventures:

And we had some very tired puppies that night:

Here our little "agility" addict:

What a hard life...

With Kajsa's second surgery the vet decided that it would be best if we continue to feed the pups and restrict Kajsa to cleaning and licking duties. It's heartbreaking to see Kajsa that wants to look after her puppies 24/7 but is not allowed to feed them.

Today we've taken some photos of all puppies even that they were covered in soaked biscuits. :-)

************************************

Kajsa was very unfortunate as one of her milk ducts got blocked and we had to take her to the vet. They put her on antibiotics but she didn't seem to get better. So while they put her on a drip overnight we were busy bottle feeding the puppies. The next morning the vet rang to say that she was ok and allowed to come home. By lunchtime we got another call from the vet as Kajsa's temperature had risen that much that the vet decided that surgery was the only option. Kajsa came home but the luck wasn't on our side and the following day she had to go back for more surgery. While she is recovering we bottle feed the puppies and have also started them on soaked biscuits but Kajsa still wants to clean them so we let her.

A big thank you goes to my parents that run the household while Juergen and I take care of the puppies.

Sweet dreams

Some of the puppies seem to smile while they"re asleep but it's no surprise with a full tummy.

Ever so cute

Some very hungry kids

We are not quite sure if this is a game but the puppies seem to love to crawl under the rails. Sometimes it even looks like they are chasing each other but just before the finish line they seem to fall asleep. This little fellow was going 100 miles an hour (maybe not that fast) but started yawning half way and fell asleep.

Today we also noticed that the puppies are starting to be up on their feet wandering around. It's not particularly stylish yet but it won't be long before they wander through the house.

We could just sit and watch for hours

Kajsa and her special pup

We keep finding the same puppy snuggled up to her mum :-)

They are all slowly starting to open their eyes so we are looking forward to giving them a bigger area to explore in the next few days. They also getting a bit big for the pig rails so they will be taken out.

Kajsa's puppies arrived

The puppies spend their day sleeping, eating and making cute noises :-)

Mum and puppies are doing well

The puppies are already getting more mobile, zooming around the whelping box (ok, maybe zooming is a bit exaggerated ). Their little tails are also already wagging when they sucking milk.

one is always hungry

Mr Little

A long way to go..

All puppies are gaining weight but it looks that they have a long way to go...

Little paws

Our big task today was cutting toe nails, all 198 of them! Puppy toe nails grow very quickly and to ease the damage on Kajsa milk bar it is only fair to cut them on a regular basis.

Kajsa and one of her puppies sharing the pillow

Kajsa allways likes to put her head on something when she's asleep. It doesn't matter if it is a shoe, a foot or a pillow. We had to smile when we found Kajsa and one of her pups during an afternoon nap, both sharing the pillow.

It seems that when the tummy is full the little ones just fall alseep - in the most strange postions:-)

We can't believe where the time has gone but the puppies are already a week old.
